There was just something different about my birthday this year. I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe it was waking up to the sound of my sweet girls chatting away over the baby monitor (I can’t help but feel full of joy at that), or the fact that for the first time in too long, I feel mostly okay in my skin. Or it could have been the static that has been buzzing all around me as i take on what I feel will be the best year of my life. Whatever it was, it was amazing. In fact I am still running off of the excitement I’ve been feeling since January 1. I’ve already proclaimed that 2016 will be a year of discovery and happiness for me, and even though I didn’t win that 1.3 billion dollar lottery (there’s always next time) I still feel like the richest girl in the world.
Let me share some hard lessons I’ve learned over the years that have brought me to the place of gratitude I am in today
- Although my circle is small, I’ve been blessed with an unbreakable tribe. Yes we fight, but we love and we love hard. We know when to talk, and when to just sit and listen. As I get older and mature, I realize that it isn’t the quantity of friends, but its the QUALITY that give you the motivation to keep going when you want to give up
- Over the past few years, I have realized, that family is the most important thing you can have. And family is who you say it is.
- Learning to say “no” can be one of the best favors you ever do for yourself. Being okay with the fact that you can’t be everything to everyone… well that comes in a very close second
- I AM ENOUGH…. YOU ARE ENOUGH. Just the way we are. That doesn’t mean stop growing, but we are so hard (too hard) on ourselves most of the time. Love yourself the way you wish others would, and they will follow suit.
Whew! Enough heavy!!! It’s my birthday! We should celebrate right?
My shutter sister and talented fellow photographer Emilie of EmilieCarol Photography treated me to a morning in front of her camera as a gift. I got dolled up in my favorite custom frock by eShakti (seriously, go check them out) and we played on a parking deck on a perfectly overcast morning (overcast days are a photographers dream in case you didn’t know! It’s literally impossible to take a bad photo on a day like this).
